Helping a Child Communicate

Many young people are reluctant to share the details of their day. One family activity that can help little ones open up is to find a relatively relaxed time of day (bed time, meal time, etc.) when everyone in the family has the opportunity to share one good and one hard experience from their day. If everyone, even Mom or Dad, shares one simple joy and frustration that has nothing to do with anyone in the family it can begin to open up lines of communication and reduce outbursts than can stem from pent up emotions.
