When to Explain Rules to Children

It is often more effective for parents to review guidelines and rules before they are put in place. i.e. If a Mom or Dad is teaching their child to hold an adult hand while crossing the street if they only explain their expectations when they are standing at an intersection tensions can easily flare. If parents are setting limits for the amount of time spent on social media sites it is also good to discuss the parameters beforehand rather than only saying “no more” when it is time to turn off the computer.
